The ban on sending books to prisoners in England and Wales introduced last November is unlawful, Britain’s high court has ruled. Prisoners were only allowed to receive books under “exceptional circumstances” such as a medical condition. The ban was introduced as part of a crackdown on drugs getting into prisons. Justice Andrew Collins said he saw “no good reason” for books to be restricted. The case was brought by Barbara Gordon-Jones, a prisoner serving a life sentence.
