Officials from the International Civil Aviation Organization will meet in Montreal this week to discuss efforts to prevent planes from vanishing off the radar. The meeting, which is only the second summit the UN agency has held in 70 years, follows last year’s disastrous disappearances of a Malaysia Airlines flight in March as well as the one shot down while flying over Ukraine in July. Officials will discuss creating a database for governments to send warnings about possible threats for planes flying over conflict zones as well as how to better track aircraft on long-haul flights.
