The United Nations envoy for Children and Armed conflict cast a bleak eye on the plight of children in Syria, saying that some have been subject to torture as bloodshed under Bashar al-Assad continues unabated. “My staff and other United Nations colleagues have documented government attacks on schools, children denied access to hospitals … and also being subject to torture, including sexual violence” Leila Zerrougui told the United Nations Security Council.
