The United Nations Security Council on Friday unanimously passed a roadmap for peace in Syria, where conflict has claimed more than a quarter million lives. The resolution came after Russia and the U.S. – two countries with very different views of the Syrian conflict and Syria's president Bashar al-Assad – came to a mutual understanding. The plan calls for a nationwide ceasefire that would not apply to the Islamic State, which controls significant portions of Syria, but does not decide upon Assad's future.
