The United Nations Security Council unanimously agreed to new sanctions against North Korea on Monday, in response to the country’s nuclear test earlier this month. All 15 Security Council members agreed to a set of economic sanctions that banned exports on North Korean textiles and limited the country’s imports of crude oil. The Security Council initially considered a tougher set of sanctions that would have banned oil imports but agreed to a more moderate draft in order to gain support from China and Russia. China buys nearly 80 percent of North Korea’s textile exports and supplies most of its crude oil, Reuters reports.
