The University of Washington has named Ana Mari Cauce as its new president, making her the first woman and the first openly gay person to hold the position. Cauce was born in Cuba and her father had been the country's minister of education before Fidel Castro came to power. The hiring is part of the school's initiative to promote race and equity.
