Paraguay was asked to extradite the former president of South America's soccer confederation on Thursday, over corruption charges being investigated by the Justice Department. U.S. prosecutors made the request to extradite 86-year-old Nicolas Leoz, who was president of the South American confederation, known as CONMEBOL, from 1986 to 2013 and also served as a former member of the executive committee of the world's soccer governing body FIFA. Leoz is being held under house arrest in the nation's capital Asuncion. The Justice Department has indicted 14 soccer officials and business executives on charges of racketeering, bribery and money laundering. Leoz said he plans to fight extradition to the U.S.
