The rebels are about to get a big delivery: President Obama approved a plan Wednesday to send military equipment valued at $25 million to the Libyan rebels, a move that the Libyan government said will only “encourage the other side to be more defiant.” The move comes shortly after Britain, France, and Italy’s decision to send military advisers. The Pentagon’s plan calls for sending surplus “non-lethal assistance” such as vehicles, military supplies, protective vests, binoculars, and radios to the Transitional National Council in Benghazi, the de facto opposition government that is not recognized by Washington. Meanwhile, heavy fighting continued in Misrata, where acclaimed war photographer and Oscar nominee Tim Hetherington was killed today, as ships tried to deliver humanitarian aid and evacuate civilians.
