Over a year after his death in a U.S. drone strike, the family of an Italian aid worker is finally receiving compensation from the U.S. government. Italian Giovanni Lo Porto was held hostage with an American aid worker in an Al Qaeda compound in Pakistan last January. A CIA missile strike on the compound killed both civilians. Lawyers for Lo Porto's family told the Intercept that the U.S. had compensated them for their loss, but did not disclose the figure the family received.
