With the price of a barrel of oil continuing to plummet, the Obama administration announced Tuesday that it will soften a 40-year-old ban on exports of most domestic crude. The Bureau of Industry and Security has granted permission to “some” companies to sell crude abroad, and has also issued guidance on what kind of oil is allowed to be sold. While the administration said that the steps were “certainly not designed to add or detract from what can be exported, we are trying to make the boundary line clearer,” the consensus seems to be that the administration is ready for more U.S. oil to be sold overseas.
