Following the news that Osama bin Laden and other senior al Qaeda leaders are believed to be planning a series of coordinated attacks against several European cities, the Obama administration warned Americans on Sunday to proceed with caution when traveling in Europe—especially around tourist spots and transportation hubs. A State Department travel alert was issued today saying, “Current information suggests that al Qaeda and affiliated organizations continue to plan terrorist attacks.” It also highlighted “the potential for terrorists to attack public transportation systems and other tourist infrastructure” and said “U.S. citizens should take every precaution to be aware of their surroundings and to adopt appropriate safety measures to protect themselves when traveling.” You can read the full alert here.
