A report in the Miami Herald alleges that nearly 600 veterans may have been infected with HIV, hepatitis B, or hepatitis C at a Veterans Administration facility in Tomah, Wisconsin. The issue arose because a dentist reportedly did not clean his instruments properly. The Tomah VA is investigating the matter and the dentist has not been fired, but was removed from caring for patients. VA spokesman Matthew Gowan said there is no indication that infections were transmitted, but some 592 veterans are being tested.
