Brandon Vandenburg, a 23-year-old former Vanderbilt University student, was sentenced to 17 years in prison on Friday for his role in gang-raping an unconscious woman in his dorm three years ago. Vandenburg will serve time on five counts of aggravated rape, two counts of aggravated sexual battery, and unlawful photography. The case, stemming from the June 2013 assault, garnered national media attention. Judge Monte Watkins' sentence described Vandenburg as a leader in the assault.
