The Victoria & Albert Museum’s recently unveiled quilts exhibition took the kind of time it does to craft one of the carefully stitched blankets. But after six years, the London museum finally revealed its first ever show devoted to the subject of quilts on March 20 and it’s already proven successful—there have already been 8,000 advance ticket sales. “There are a lot of women out there who are really keen to learn new skills and step away from their computer and their Blackberry,” the show’s curator said of the 71-piece exhibition called “Quilts 1700-2010.” Most of the quilts are displayed on beds or on walls, shedding light on 18th century life as every individually woven item tells a story. Contemporary artists such a Grayson Perry and Tracey Emin also contributed quilts to the exhibit.
