Volkswagen was reportedly warned years ago about the use of illegal tricks to beat emissions tests. The company admitted last week that the special software it used fooled the U.S. emission tests in diesel cars. In 2007, parts supplier Bosch reportedly warned the company not to use the software during regular operation. Some 11 million cars have been affected by the scandal since 2008.
