Gordon Gekko returned in style this weekend, as Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, Oliver Stone’s sequel to his iconic 1987 film Wall Street, opened at No. 1 at the box office with a haul of $19 million. The launch was softer than expected, but still topped all of Stone’s previous opening weekends—and handed its young star, Shia LaBeouf, his fifth straight No. 1 debut. Behind Wall Street was animated owl flick Legend of the Guardians The Owls of Ga’Hoole, which overcame its goofy title to take in $16.3 million. In third place, Ben Affleck’s The Town slipped a mere 33 percent from its opening, taking $16 million. The Boston-set crime thriller has now made $50 million in just two weeks and already offset its production budget.
