Gordan Gekko must be pleased. Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, Oliver Stone’s sequel to his 1987 tale of financial greed, out-earned all its competitors during its opening night on Friday. The movie, starring Michael Douglas and Shia LaBeouf, took in $7 million, $2 million more than the second-place earner, Ben Afleck’s The Town, which finished barely ahead of Legend of The Guardians: The Owls. Money Never Sleeps reprises the original Wall Street scenario—Gordon Gekko, still played by Michael Douglas, educates and influences his naive protégé, now played by Shia LaBeouf—during the 2008 financial meltdown.
