Walmart on Thursday began rolling out its own mobile-payment system to allow customers to pay through its app at the cash register. The world’s largest retailer said it would begin testing out the new system near its headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas. Shoppers can link any major credit or debit card or Walmart’s store gift card to the app, making it the first retailer with its own mobile-payments solution that works on any Apple iOS or Android smartphone. The company said it plans to launch the payment system in its 4,600 stores nationwide early next year.
