The World Health Organization declared the African nation of Guinea to be Ebola-free on Tuesday, after more than 2,500 people there died from the virus. The government, along with representatives from donor nations and NGOs, plans to hold an official ceremony Wednesday marking the declaration. The event will also remember the 115 health workers who died fighting the epidemic and the eight members of an Ebola-awareness team killed by hostile locals in Womey. A country is declared Ebola free 42 days after the recovery or death of the last patient and if there are no new infections. Liberia is the only country still awaiting the end of the virus.
