Who Leads Dems If Reid Loses?

Senator Reid may not be out of a job yet, but Democrats are already jockeying to replace him as majority leader if he does. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), head of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, commands the loyalty of many in his caucus after he led his party to a historic victory. But insiders say Sen. Dick Durban (D-IL) has been an effective public face for the Democrats, and has a strong backing for the majority leader position. The whole question will be moot if Reid holds on in Nevada, but Durbin and Schumer are at the ready in case he doesn’t. As a former Democratic contender for the job said, “You want to get commitments as soon as you can.”
