By retiring now, Pam Galloway will avoid the potential embarassment of losing her Wisconsin state Senate seat in a recall election this summer. Fellow Republican Senator Scott Fitzgerald said Galloway would likely announce her decision later Friday and that she’s retiring because of family health issues, not out of fear she might by unseated by Democratic Rep. Donna Seidel. Where Republicans once held a majority in the state Senate, Galloway’s resignation would now make them split with Democrats 16-16. Seidel, for her part, isn’t deterred by the news. “It doesn’t change my plans,” she said. “People really believe their concerns have not been addressed and their values have not been paid attention to. They want Wisconsin back. Galloway is one of four senators facing a recall election for helping Gov. Scott Walker pass a law eliminating public workers’ bargaining rights.
