In the latest in a series of suspected attacks by militants in Bangladesh, the wife of a police official was stabbed and then shot in front of her six-year-old son. Mahmuda Aktar, 33, is married to a top officer known for combatting Islamist extremism. She was attacked while dropping her son at a school bus stop. A deputy police commissioner said three men riding a motorcycle stabber her and then shot her. Her husband has played crucial roles in capturing leading militants, and police believe Aktar's murder may have been motivated by her husband's work. Police spokesman Iqbal Bahar said, "As Babul Aktar was involved in working against the militants we will investigate whether the militants carried out this operation."
