A woman has won the right to use her dead daughter’s frozen eggs to give birth to her own grandchild, after reportedly promising that she’d carry the babies on her behalf. The 60-year-old woman won an appeal against a U.K. regulator that refusal to allow it last year. The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority initially said that the eggs could not be released from storage because the daughter, who died of bowel cancer at 28, had not given written consent. The mother will reportedly take the eggs to a clinic in New York, where she’ll be inseminated with a donor’s sperm.
