After two victories in Minnesota, the Yankees are now firmly in control of their American League Divisional Series against the Twins, leading the best-of-five series 2-0. The defending champions fell behind early on Thursday evening, but rallied back to win, 5-2, and set up a possible sweep at Yankee Stadium on Saturday. In the other ALDS, the Texas Rangers also put the Tampa Bay Rays on the brink of elimination by thumping the A.L. East champions, 6-0. A victory for the Rangers Saturday in Arlington would put the club in its first ever A.L. Championship Series. Meanwhile, in the National League, Tim Lincecum pitched a complete-game shutout to carry the San Francisco Giants over the Atlanta Braves, 1-0, in their series opener. Game 2 of that series is Friday night, along with the matchup between the Cincinnati Reds and the Philadelphia Phillies.
